Train tickets sell out incredibly fast on weekends and Korean holidays. To avoid getting stranded at the station, I highly recommend booking your tickets online in advance. (And yes, they accept foreign-issued credit cards!)
Step 1. Go to the KORAIL English Website
- Go to the official English website. You can use either a PC or your mobile phone.
Step 2. Search for Your Itinerary
On the left side of the main screen, use the ‘Ticket‘ menu to enter your travel details.
- Travel Type: Select ‘Direct’ for a one-way, non-transfer trip.
- Departure: Type ‘Seoul’
- Arrival: Type ‘Busan’ (or your desired destination)
- Date & Time: Choose your departure date and time.
- Passengers: Select the number of people (Adults, Children, etc.), and click the ‘Inquiry‘ button!
Step 3. Choose Your Train and Seat Class
Look through the train schedule and find a KTX train at your preferred time.
- First Class: Wider seats, more legroom, and complimentary water/snacks. (Costs a bit extra)

Step 5. Save Your Mobile Ticket
Once your payment goes through, you will see a ‘Ticket Confirmation‘ page.
- You MUST take a screenshot of this page on your smartphone, or download the e-ticket sent to your email. When you board the train, this screenshot IS your official ticket!

Got your ticket? Awesome! Now let me walk you through the exact process from arriving at Seoul Station to stepping onto your train. Korean trains depart strictly on the dot, so try to arrive at the main concourse at least 10 minutes before departure.
Step 1. Check the Big Departures Board
When you arrive at the Main Concourse of Seoul Station, the very first thing you need to do is look up at the giant digital boards hanging from the ceiling.
- Match the departure time, destination (Busan), and train number (e.g., KTX 021) written on your mobile ticket with the screen.
- Look at the far right column for your ‘Track Number‘. (This usually pops up about 15 minutes before departure.)
Step 2. Head to Your Track
If the board says your train leaves from ‘Track 4’, just follow the yellow/blue signs pointing to Track 4.
